Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Police state preliminary tests show the liquid was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the incident" and have asked to the community for details.
A senior official commented the incident rendered him speechless and had to be resolved quickly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, mentioning the death of nine people by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in 2020.
